The Future
As the design of aerospace structures continues to develop with
better instrumentation, computer analysis and materials, MERL will
continue
to develop its core competencies in this area. MERL is collaborating
with other European organisations to solicit European funding to
jointly develop new areas including:
- Smart structures such as the use of piezoelectric sensors or fibre optics
for structural
health monitoring
- Memory shape alloys for flight surfaces and operational control
MERL can employ its core competencies to determine the durability and modelling
in the aerospace structures and materials for the 21st Century.
