Chemical Exposure Testing

Many situations arise where the interaction of service fluid with polymer component results in performance deterioration (e.g. chemical ageing of rubber). Examples include sealing applications, pipelines, adhesives and medical devices.

Chemical exposure tests are often used to evaluate material compatibility and service life. MERL has extensive capabilities for such work, including the use of hazardous fluids and, by accelerated testing, is able to predict and justify maintenance schedules and extended service life. Consequently, cost savings can be gained through less downtime due to unexpected failure and greater confidence in service life intervals.

MERL materials testing laboratories are able to offer this service through its involvement with a wide variety of industry sectors, particularly Oil & Gas, which has led to comprehensive knowledge of polymer/fluid interactions.
