Thermal Analysis
MERL carries out thermal property measurement of materials using
the latest measurement technology - The Hot Disk Thermal Constants
Analyser.
|
This equipment, based on the patented Transient Plane Source (TPS)
technique, enables accurate and rapid measurement of thermal properties
including:
Thermal conductivity in the range 0.005 to 500 W/mK
Thermal diffusivity
Specific heat measurement |

Benefits of the test method include:
- Large sample size not required (2 mm)
- Use on curved as well as flat specimens
- Use as a non-destructive test (unlike other thermal test methods)
- Measurement under a range of conditions – temperatures (30 to 1000k),
pressures
and environments
- Accurate measurement on samples after exposure to moisture (technique does
not drive out absorbed liquid)
- Characterisation of anisotropic thermal behaviour possible
- Contact resistance automatically accounted for
